Members of Team Rugged raced their way to the podium in Legacy Racing Association’s inaugural season, claiming top spots in classes across the board.

Nolan Williams | 1st Place • U UNL 2900

Local Central Coast racer Nolan Williams brought home the gold after a great season, winning by a landslide in the U Unlimited 2900 Class.

“Hard work pays off,” Williams said. “Always room for improvement, but to win the Championship is a great feeling to have.”

When it comes to race support, it doesn’t matter the size of your race program. Rugged Radios is here to support all racers!

“It means a lot to have a company that cares about its customers equally,” says Williams. “Pro racers and amateur racers get the same amount of respect and help!”

“Rugged Radios made sure all my chase trucks, helmets, and my race car were dialed before every race. Rugged radios being at every race also plays the biggest factor for last minute help before the races.”

Mike Coulter | 1st Place • Class 10

After racing his way through what he described as a “challenging” season, Mike Coulter took care of business and brought home the Championship in Class 10.

Each of the Legacy race courses had their own unique challenges which allow for different strategies to play out,” Coulter said. “This year we had two chase pit races which not only puts a high demand on the race car comms but the comms in our chase vehicles as well.”

Highly-functioning, crystal clear communications is what Rugged Radios is all about and our team will stop at nothing to make sure racers are prepared for the race ahead of them.

“We know [Rugged Radios] tech guys by name and they are not afraid to jump into our car and get in awkward positions under the dash to make sure our comms are right,” he emphasized. “Being able to clearly communicate our needs to our pits well before our pit stop allows them to react quickly and minimize our down time in the pits.”

Eric Holt & Tyler Harvey | 1st Place • M Open E 100-150

Not only did they win Open Exp M/C Class in Best in the Desert this year, Eric Holt and Tyler Harvey rode their way to the top of the M Open E 100-150 Class in Legacy – inevitably fueled by their excitement over a new series to freshen things up for their program.

“The addition of a new racing organization that had new races brought a breath of fresh air into the program,” said Harvey.

When it’s just you versus the desert, you never know what will happen but it is sure to put you to the test.

“The desert is so hard on equipment that it’s necessary to run the best. We believe Rugged offers that in the comms department,” said Harvey. “We’re stoked to be a part of a program that supports its racers as much as Rugged does.”

Having communication with your team provides some peace of mind for riders, especially knowing that desert racing can prove to be tricky, and dangerous at times.

“We use the best equipment to ensure reliability; Rugged equipment has always been a quality product that you can rely on,” said Holt. “Having good communications between rider and chase crews adds a level of comfort and safety that is key to our confidence and success.”

Jack Olliges, Troy Grabowski, Ryan Piplic | BITD and Legacy Champions

The Holt / Harvey moto duo weren’t the only ones to be champions in more than one series this year. Jack Olliges in U Stock U900, Troy Grabowski in Class 5, and Ryan Piplic in U Turbo were crowned Champions of not only Legacy, but Best in the Desert as well, bringing home 6 championships for Team Rugged!

“Being a part of the Rugged Family means so much to my team and me. The relationships I've made and the support I've received from the Rugged team are irreplaceable,” said Jack. “Truly couldn't do it without Rugged and my great group of sponsors.”

Maddie Wedeking | 1st Place • U NA 1900
Maddie Wedeking raced her heart out all year, bringing home the Championship in the

U NA 1900 Class.

Getting the Championship is such an accomplishment, especially in a male dominated sport,” Wedeking wrote on her Instagram. “Huge thank you to all my sponsors who have made this possible!”

In the Class 6200, Conner McMullen on Team Rugged also won the Championship.

“Thank you to Legacy Racing for putting on an amazing, safe, fun, family friendly event,” said McMullen on Facebook. “Of course, our ‘Biggest Little Team in the Desert’ could not do any of this without our great marketing partners and supporters.”
